Amcham: Crime not bothering TT investors

PERSONAL security is not an issue for potential investors to Trinidad and Tobago and the cost of business for those investors has not increased as a result of the current levels of crime in the country. This is the latest information being broadcast worldwide by the American Chamber of Commerce of TT (Amcham).

According to information from Amcham’s website, no mention is made of crime or possible security risks to potential investors. Under the section entitled “TT as a place to invest”, the Chamber describes this country as “a stable and democratic nation” and “the friendly attitude of the population encourages an amicable atmosphere for business discussions”. Despite a slight criticism about TT remaining “heavily reliant” on the energy sector, Amcham’s overall review of the local economy and economic prospects is favourable. Meanwhile, security intelligence updates yesterday from the American State Department and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) provide further reassurance to potential US investors. The State Department indicates that TT “is considered safe” and visitors to TT should “exercise normal caution and good judgment” as far as crime is concerned. The CIA meanwhile maintains that TT has “a reputation as an excellent investment site for international businesses” and there are no security threats to either locals or foreign interests at this time.
