Epileptic fisherman drowns
A MAYARO fisherman is believed to have drowned after suffering an epileptic seizure, police said yesterday. The body of Mewalal Beharry, 35, was found in a pond a short distance away from his home on Wednesday night. Beharry’s common-law wife, Sherry Ann Michael, told police Beharry left their home at Kernahan Village around 2.30 pm on Wednesday, to fish for cascadura at a nearby pond. By 8 pm that evening, when he did not return home, Michael became worried and villagers who were alerted, went in search of him.
Within the hour, the villagers found Beharry’s body floating face down in the pond Michael told police her common-law husband suffered from epileptic seizures. Beharry’s body was examined and ordered removed to the Sangre Grande Mortuary. An autopsy was scheduled for yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre. PC Ramnarine is continuing investigations.
