South school launches magazine
REACHING for the stars, the first magazine produced by Canaan Presbyterian School, of Duncan Village, San Fernando was launched in front a packed audience of parents, teachers and pupils at the school, last Thursday. Principal Kamini Ramsingh-Ramrekha said the objective of the publication was to showcase the talent and achievements of the teaching staff, pupils and other members of the community. She said the magazine also served as a medium to disseminate crucial information between the school and all stakeholders. The principal praised the editorial committee headed by Gemma Maharaj, for its dedication and hard work in producing the magazine in record time.
In congratulating the principal on her initiative, PTA representative Deoraj Toofan lauded the “splendid job” done by the school in not only producing the magazine, but going the extra mile to spread joy to the neighbourhood during the Christmas season, when the school was magnificently decorated with lights. A representative from the Ministry of Education noted that it was inspiring to highlight the good in the school system, especially in light of the recent unsavoury publicity some schools were receiving. The principal and staff were encouraged to continue the excellent job. Also attending the function at Duncan Village, San Fernando, were representatives from the Presbyterian Church and school manager Basdeo Rampersad, past principal Judith Rampersad and Education Ministry representative Vimala Ramsumair. A copy of the magazine was later presented to each of the speakers.
