Cops rescue teachers
SANGRE Grande police on patrol in the Manzanilla area on Wednesday night rescued two teachers being robbed, and recovered all of the stolen items.
According to reports, a team of officers lead by Cpl Christopher Fuentes were on patrol in the area around 11.20 pm when they observed two people lying on the beach next to a car, with four men standing over them.
On closer inspection, the four armed men ran and it was observed that the two people lying on the ground were tied up and gagged. Police untied and released the two who were identified as Glen Solomon, 25, of Taitte Trace, Guaico, Tamana, and Jennifer Thomas, 26, of Guaico Tamana Road, Guaico, Tamana, both teachers.
The couple reported they were in Thomas’ car talking when four armed men came up and announced a hold-up. The men proceeded to rob them of two phones, personal items and the four tyres and rims of the car valued $4,000, before tying them up. A search of the area was conducted and a green Sentra B13 car was found with a 41-year-old Petit Bourg man hiding inside. All of the items reported stolen were recovered in the car.
The man was arrested and taken to the Sangre Grande Police Station where he was charged. Police later went to another house about half-mile away where they found kidnapped hairdresser Val Reyes in a beach house gallery waiting for help. The arrested Petit Bourg man is also assisting the Anti-Kidnaping Squad in their investigations in the kidnaping because they suspect he might be involved, having been found in close proximity.
An All Points Bulletin has been put out for the arrest of three others who escaped. The arrested man is expected to appear before a Sangre Grande magistrate today to answer robbery charges. In an unrelated matter, shortly before the police found the two teachers, they were called out to Bonsai Avenue, Foster Road in Sangre Grande where it was reported that businessman Sean Keane, 45, had been kidnapped.
He escaped yesterday morning and found his way to a house in Wallerfield where he contacted the Sangre Grande police.
Detective Cpl Fuentes is conducting investigations into the robbery and the kidnapping. Also visiting the scene were Constables Stanley Racha and Randolph Castillo.
