Robbery suspect and cop held in central

A 19-year-old man who was wanted for shooting a police officer in the mouth and robbing him of his car last Sunday was held in a rice field at Limehead Road, Chase Village, yesterday. Reports revealed that around 11 am, a party of officers led by Ag Sgt Ajith Persad and including Cpl Aguilerra, PCs Alexander, Guelmo and Gustav, were on mobile patrol when they saw the suspect walking along Limehead Road. Officers chased the man who ran into a rice field and tried to escape.

He was pursued by the officers and arrested. The man will be placed on identification parade today for shooting PC Mitra Gobin. Gobin was shot in the mouth and robbed of his car while at Mid Centre Mall, Chaguanas, last Sunday night. The suspect will also be placed on identification parades for several similar offences in Central Division. And at around midday, the same officers were on patrol when they arrested a  35-year-old police officer from Caroni Savannah Road who was wanted on a warrant for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old girl. The constable, who is on vacation leave, was arrested and taken to the Chaguanas Police Station where he was detained. The constable will be placed on an identification parade today for the offence.
