Attorney leads winning band in Couva Jouvert

ATTORNEY Dave Persad made his debut as a Jouvert bandleader yesterday and copped the main title at the competition in Couva with his presentation “Facing Reality in Trinidad and Tobago.” The band was a satirical portrayal of the restructuring of the local sugar industry.

Prime Minister Patrick Manning and former Agriculture Minister John Rahael were the main focus of attack by the masqueraders. “Sugar was the life blood of thousands of people in the Central and none shall escape our wrath,” Persad declared. In second place was Leftwing’s “Wah Really Happening,” which poked fun at the PNM administration’s handling of the fishing dispute with Barbados and other political issues. Couva’s Jouvert King was Carlton Adams who portrayed the “Horner Man,” while Evelyn Phillip (“Oma Losing Weight”) was the Jouvert Queen.
