Haste to charge UNC supporters

THE OPPOSITION UNC yesterday alleged that “there appears to be an obscene haste when it comes to investigations involving known or supposed UNC supporters” while other investigations seemingly proceed at snail’s pace. In a statement, the Opposition condemned police inaction on investigations into alleged corruption at Labidco, the award of a license to Citadel Limited and alleged political interference in the release of two Barbadian fishermen who were caught fishing illegally in waters off Tobago.

However the UNC claimed that the reverse applies in matters which involve persons who are Opposition supporters or perceived to have connections to the UNC. “Not one has been charged to date. There is a preoccupation with making arrests.  Can supporters of the UNC not assume that this country has one law for PNM supporters and another more vicious one for UNC supporters?” the party alleged.
