Wanted man shot dead in Laventille
TWENTY-THREE-year-old Jaylon Murray was shot dead after visiting the Sobrian Place home of his brother and sister around midnight on Sunday. The Laventille man’s murder is the 99th for the year. Reports revealed that around midnight, residents of Sobrian Place heard sounds of rapid gunfire. At 6 am yesterday, the body of Murray, 23, was found lying in a track. He was shot three times in the chest. Officers led by ag Snr Supt Errol Denoon and including ASP Sealey, ag Insp Singh and Sgt Edwards went to the scene along with District Medical Officer Dr Tom Pack.
The body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre. Police investigators told Newsday that Murray was wanted on ten warrants for firearm related offences and robberies. He was also a member of a gang and was wanted for questioning about a recent murder in Arima. Newsday learnt that Murray went into hiding more than six months ago after he was threatened by other rival gang members. He secretly visited his brother and sister. Police investigators told Newsday that based on information received, Murray was shot by a gang member. Up until late yesterday, several persons were interviewed by homicide officers. Relatives of the deceased told Newsday that Murray had mended his ways and was now living an honest life. They added that he was about to surrender to the police when he was shot dead.
