Man killed in Vessigny accident

A 29-YEAR-OLD man became the country’s latest road fatality victim when he lost his life after the vehicle he was driving overturned near the Vessigny Beach Complex in Vessigny yesterday. According to police sources, around 3.20 pm, Jameel Mohammed of Cap De Ville was traveling in a southerly direction en route to Point Fortin when while attempting to overtake a line of cars, he lost control of his pick-up van which overturned. Mohammed was at the time accompanied with a male passenger who up to press time remained unidentified. Both men were thrown out of the vehicle and Mohammed reportedly died on the scene.

The other passenger was taken to the Point Fortin Area Hospital in an EHS ambulance where he was treated and remains warded in critical condition. District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr Tia Okwee visited the scene and ordered the removal of Mohammed’s body to San Fernando Mortuary where an autopsy is scheduled to be carried out today. The wrecked pick-up was towed to the La Brea Police Station. Cpl Ali is  investigating.
