Man held after KFC Shootout
A 33-year-old man was arrested at his Enterprise home early yesterday and a .38 revolver seized after a shootout at the Montrose branch of Kentucky Fried Chicken. Reports revealed that around midnight Thursday, Amalgamated Security guard Steve Huggins was on duty at the KFC branch, when a lone gunman began firing at him. The guard returned fire, striking the attacker who then fled the scene. A report was made to the Chaguanas CID and a party of officers, led by Ag Deputy Commissioner Oswyn Allard, ASP Correia, Ag Sgt Ajith Persad and Cpl Aguilerra, responded. An Enterprise house was searched and a 33-year-old man with a gunshot injury was arrested.
A .38 revolver was also seized. The injured man was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was treated and warded in an unsatisfactory condition. The guard was interviewed by the police. Investigators believe the guard was shot in a robbery attempt which was foiled when the guard shot his attacker in the exchange. The injured suspect is expected to be placed on identification parade for other shooting offences in Central Division.
