President dodges rain at Summersalt II
PRESIDENT George Maxwell Richards took time off his busy schedule to put in an appearance at the Second Annual Summersalt all-inclusive party which was held at Michael Headley’s Playa Del Este Sanctuary in Salybia on Saturday. During Imij and Co’s first stint on stage, the President couldn’t help but get on the muddy dancing area to show off some of his dancing skills to the band’s pulsating music. However when the rains came during the session, the President made a hasty retreat to drier ground.
Among those enjoying the day too, were a number of other high profile guests including Venezuelan Ambassador Carlos Azocar and his wife Flor Acconciamessa, Tourism Minister Howard Chin Lee, MP for the area Roger Boynes, MP Eric Williams, former MP John Humphrey and his wife Helen, Joe Laquis, Tsunami’s Al Smith and bandleaders of the newest mas band Legacy, Mike Antoine and Juliet de la Bastide, as well as Thais Hart and Chris Robinson of the Harts Mas Camp.
The day started with the presentation of a number of awards and the main one, the Second Annual “Wow” Award. That award went to the section “Atlantis” in Retromania 2004. The award was designed to develop a competitive spirit among the band sections to propel them on to excellence. Producers of that section were awarded a challenge trophy, a keepsake trophy, a cash incentive, website profiling and hampers from various corporate organisations.
It was also announced that $15,000 from Poison’s 2004 presentation was donated to charity. To get the party goers in the spirit of Carnival, the venue itself was fully decorated with bits and pieces of Retromania’s costumes and lots of colourful fabric. And apart from Imij and Co the Point Fortin Engine Room managed to attract many wannabe players. The Poison committee also took the opportunity to announce the name of their 2005 presentation “Cherchez La Femme.” They say it’s all about the woman next year. Here are some highlights of the event.
