Union wants Carib workers back on the job
THE National Union of Govern-ment and Federated Workers (NUGFW) yesterday started proceedings aimed at putting Carib workers, who were locked out of their workplace nearly two weeks ago, back on the job. Lawyers representing NUGFW were busy at the Industrial Court yesterday, preparing documents to deal with an alleged industrial relations offence on the part of the company when it locked the workers out The union took the action under provisions of the Industrial Relations Act (IRA). Union sources said the parties will have to appear in court on Monday for directions. The source explained the union is also planning to file an injunction against the company, restraining it from continuing to lock out the workers. Carib and its workers have been at loggerheads over a wage increase demand made by the union to cover the next collective agreement.
