$2.8M bail for 4 security guards

FOUR security guards, attached to Piarco Air Services, were last night placed on a total of $2.8 million bail when they appeared before Justice of the Peace Ackbar Khan charged with kidnapping, robbery, obtaining money by false pretences and demanding money by menace. The guards were arrested on Wednesday in a sting operation carried out by members of the St Joseph Police Station at Piarco Old Road, not far from Piarco International Airport. Last night, Dave Oliver, 34, of Maracas, St Joseph; Cuthbert Jeremie, 41, of Arima; David Wiltshire, 36, of Arima; and Curtis James, 38, of Arima, were charged with kidnapping a 20-year-old man from South Trinidad at Piarco International Airport on June 23.


They were also charged with robbing the same man of $28,000 worth of gold, as well as demanding $8,000 by menace. Oliver and Jeremie were also charged with obtaining $400 by false pretences. They appeared before JP Khan at the St Joseph Police Station last night and were each granted $710,000 bail to cover all the charges. The charges were laid by PC Nirmal Ramjattan of the St Joseph CID. The men will appear before a Tunapuna magistrate on Monday.
