Arouca graduates told: You are responsible for your learning

“Striving for Excellence” was the theme for the 2004 evening shift graduates of Five Rivers Junior Secondary School. The event, held at the Faith Assembly Church in Five Rivers last Friday, saw several students awarded for their achievements, academic and otherwise. Feature address was given by acting principal of Toco Composite and former student of Five Rivers, Kendall John, who expressed his pride in being a past pupil of the school. Using his life as testimony to the good foundation he got at the school, John advised students to ensure the same.

“You cannot leave school without something. Regardless of the school you go to (hereafter), you must make something of yourself, as you are responsible for your learning,” he stated. The Joseph De Gannes Mathematics Award was won by Aziza Maynard while the Principal’s Award went to Avionne Alexander, one of the highest achievers and co-valedictorian for the 2004 class. Fellow graduate, Jody Jagdis, shared the valedictorian post with Alexander, both of whom received trophies for their outstanding accomplishments during their tenure at Five Rivers.
