Two in court for kidnapping Nunes

Two men yesterday appeared before a Port-of-Spain magistrate to answer charges of falsely imprisoning a gas station owner who was kidnapped a few weeks ago. Appearing before Magistrate Gillian David were Sheldon Bailey and Sherwin Carter, both of Blue Basin Road in Diego Martin. They are charged with falsely imprisoning 71-year-old gas station owner Alvin Nunes between June 6 and 8 at a house in Diego Martin. The indictable charges were laid by PC Mickey Williams of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad. Both men, who were initially each granted bail in $85,000, remained unrepresented yesterday when they appeared for the second time. The matter was adjourned to July 6. Nunes was abducted from his gas station at the corner of Reid Lane and Belmont Circular Road on June 6. He was rescued two days later at a house in Diego Martin. Two other men are charged with kidnapping Nunes. Their matters are also before the court.
