Father of 10 gunned down while gambling
An Alexis Street, Laventille father of ten was gunned down on Monday night shortly after entering a game of gambling. Marcus Prudhomme, 43, was shot dead at around 8.30 pm while playing a game of “whappie” in a shed located on Prudhomme Lane, Upper Pashley Street, Laventille. According to reports, ten minutes after speaking to his sister, Marcus entered the shed with a man to gamble. Reports indicate that while there, two armed men arrived and fired several shots at Prudhomme, who was shot in his back and shoulder as he tried to run. The father of ten fell down dead. His gambling partner ran for his life.
Soon after, relatives found Prudhomme, a straightener and painter by trade, lying dead. There were no signs of blood. Police recovered five empty shells at the murder scene. DMO Dr Olowe visited the scene and ordered the body removed to the Forensic Sciences Centre for autopsy. When Newsday tried to speak to relatives, they had no comment to make except to say that “he was a good man and did not deserve to die so.” Police sources could give no motive for the killing. Prudhomme is a former car thief and member of the Jamaat-al-Muslimeen with a checkered career. “We don’t know if it was because of his past life or anything recent that he was killed.
“But we are continuing investigations,” said police sources. After the murder, a strange green car was seen driving in front of the Prudhomme’s home. Members of the Inter-agency Task Force visited the house and were able to determine that there was no reason for concern. Visiting the scene was Supt Fredericks, acting Insp Singh, Sgt Boyce, Cpls Edwards and Peterson. Cpl Patterson is investigating.
