Teachers touch lives forever, graduates told
TEACHING is a noble profession and those who are committed to it touch lives forever, said educator Dr Maria Byron, in the feature address at a graduation ceremony at Holy Faith Convent, Couva, yesterday. Dr Byron added that as a teacher for many years she was “proud to have touched the lives of young people who have pursued life’s journey in a meaningful way.” “The future is yours to create and in doing so hold on to your dream and plan to achieve your objective,” she said.
“Never bend down your head while you are on life’s journey. Hold it up high so that the world will look you straight in the eye. “In every man and woman a giant is asleep and when he awakes miracles can take place. You must work conscientiously to discover the giant in you.” She said that through the efforts of teachers she discovered the giant in herself and “I am advising you to do the same.” Dr Byron told the graduates that to improve in life “you must be in competition with yourself and nothing will stop you from gaining excellence.”
