Police question four in 11-year-old boy’s death

Police are questioning four men following the death of 11-year-old Judel Wilson, who died after being reportedly beaten by four men in the forest off Patna Village, Diego Martin. According to relatives, Judel was killed after he had a fight with a girl in the Diego Martin, Government Primary School where they were both students. Relatives told Newsday, “From our investigations Judel was hanging out with two other girls, when this girl, who did not like him came up and started telling him different things.

“The sharp-tongued youth responded with a few sentences that left the Standard Four girl embarrassed. “She began to kick and cuff him, eventually pushing him into a drain. He retaliated by kicking her,” said the relatives. After the incident, Judel was on his way home from school at Salandy Street, Diego Martin  when he was grabbed by four men who took him into the forest and beat him about the head with a basketball. Judel went home but did not report the incident to his parents and started experiencing headaches, followed by blackouts and dizzy spells.

He was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital and later to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he fell into coma and died on Tuesday. A post mortem showed he died from head injuries. He was buried on Friday. “He was not a fighter, he was a loving child. So loving was he that on his mother’s birthday, when he could not afford a card he read her a verse from the bible and on Mother’s Day he read her a poem. “The tears that people saw at the funeral of Judel by his mother Anastasia Wilson is a cry for justice. Whoever did this to the little boy should be charged with murder,” relatives said.
