Invaders warms up a rainy night

PAN LOVERS braved inclement weather at the Queen’s Park Oval Saturday night to take in the Pan Trinbago/Tidco organised Panyard Sensations. It was BWIA Invaders’ turn to show off their skills and they did so in style, despite starting the show almost 30 minutes late. St James Tripolians ushered in Invaders players as they took to the stage to play the National Anthem. Accompanied by members of Invaders, the evergreen Blakie kicked off the show with “Steelband Clash”, a performance  which was well received. He then performed “Hold The Pussy” over a recording. However, the sound engineer had a very hard time getting the sound levels right.

Invaders returned to the stage and performed “Love Theme” and “In The Mood”, then made way for winner of the Steelpan Solo Category at the TT Music Festival, Shiron Copper, who performed “Call of The Amerindians”, a song composed by another Invaders player, Leon “Foster” Thomas. Invaders’ musical director Earl Brooks joined the band on stage to perform “Summertime” and “Panatic” to the delight of the audience. The show then moved up a notch as Robert Munro and a friend joined Invaders for a musicial treat that included “Conga”, “The Will” and “Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony”. St James Tripolians kept the pace going during the intermission and had patrons dancing to songs like “Flag Woman”, “Quando Quando”, “Careless Whispers” and “Mas In May”.

The second half of the show was introduced by the St James Tassa Drummers who played “Jahai Bahi” along with Invaders. Other artistes featured were Marcia Miranda (“Your Love Is My Love”), Francis Prime (“Lately and Forever In Love”), Singing Sandra (“Push The Creator Out and “Voices From The Ghetto”), Sean Daniel (“Waving Thing”) and The Original De Fosto (“War”). Invaders ended the show with a rendition of their Panorama 2004 selection “War 2004” and Tripolians played as patrons headed home after a great pan show.
