Moruga man dies as car slams into pole
JUST one day after celebrating his 23rd birthday, Francisco Glodon was dead. The young man died after his car crashed into a pole in Moruga on Sunday. Glodon, son of the president of the Moruga Fishermen Association, was driving along La Lune Road in a black Laurel at around 2 pm when he lost control and the vehicle hit a utility pole and careened into a ditch. Glodon was pitched through the windscreen on impact. The unconscious man was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he died while undergoing emergency surgery. An autopsy revealed he died from massive head injuries. When Newsday visited his Gran Chemin home, where he lived with his parents, Glodon’s father Peter had gone to witness his son’s autopsy. His grief-stricken mother Rita, a teacher, recalled on Saturday they had a birthday party for Francisco.
“Yesterday (Sunday) we were just relaxing and playing cards. He said he was going by the shop to buy something and he was coming back,” a weeping Rita said, but Glodon never returned. The mother of three said she believed her son’s car skidded on the wet road, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. Glodon, a former electrician’s apprentice at Caroni (1975) Ltd, collected his backpay from the defunct company last Friday, some of which he used to purchase clothes and shoes. Relatives described him as a favourite in the community. PC Chapdeo of the Moruga Police Station is continuing investigations.
