Two dead in Nelson Street shootout
A 22-year-old drug pusher was shot dead around 10.20 pm on Sunday, and his attacker died around 8 am yesterday, after a shootout at Nelson Street in Port-of-Spain. The killings pushed the murder toll to 127 persons for the year. Reports revealed that around 10.20 pm, Atiba Mcintyre, 22, of Nelson Street, Port-of-Spain, was standing outside Building 32, when he was confronted by Turman Fagan, 24, of St John Street, East Dry River. Fagan attempted to rob Mcintyre of a quantity of drugs resulting in a shoot-out between the two men.
Mcintyre was shot in the chest while Fagan was shot in the head. Both men were rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where Mcintyre was pronounced dead on arrival. A party of officers led by acting Sgt Stephen Grant and Cpl Ferette went to the scene and carried out enquiries. A .380 pistol, eight rounds of ammunition and three spent shells were recovered from the scene. Fagan died at around 8 am yesterday at the Intensive Care Unit of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Police investigators told Newsday that Mcintyre was wanted by officers of Central Division for a series of robberies. The body was identified by Mcintyre’s brother, Garnet Lake. Trevor Fagan, a labourer at the Port Authority and father of Turman Fagan, identified his son’s body yesterday. Fagan, alias Murphy Lewis, was a member of the St Paul Street gang in Laventille, while Mcintyre was a member of a rival gang. Cpl Ferette is investigating.
