Khan: TT’s shipping in capable female hands

WORKS and Transport Minister Franklyn Khan said the population could rest assured that  Trinidad and Tobago’s maritime affairs are on an even keel — with women at the helm in several key spheres of the sector’s operations. Addressing an International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code achievement ceremony at the Cascadia Hotel in St Ann’s on Monday, the Minister noted that three key players who helped TT achieve the ISPS global deadline of July 1, were Shipping Association of TT chief executive officer Jennifer Gonzales, director of Maritime Services, Beverly Phillip and Works and Transport Ministry Permanent Secretary Lynette Felix-Henry.

“The shipping fraternity is in the hands of women. It is my own experience, and I make no apology for it. The females among us are now starting to take genuine leadership roles in this country. This country is blessed to have them,” the Minister declared. Khan added that while he was sometimes baffled at the pace at which the trio worked, the Ministry and by extension the Government, were all too aware of the important roles they played in the entire ISPS compliance exercise.
