Sod turned for Champs Fleurs apartments
UPPER MENDEZ Drive in Champs Fleurs is the site for construction of new apartments. The sod-turning ceremony to launch the start of construction of the “Garden Apartments” was held on Tuesday. Housing Minister Keith Rowley said the new apartments will be completed in January 2006. Winston Agard, chief executive officer of the Urban Development Corporation of TT (UDeCOTT) said the new buildings will consist of 111 two bedroom apartments in five three- storey buildings and three two-storey buildings. A carpark which will accomodate 160 cars will also be made available to the potential residents, he said.
“This development will offer considerable benefits to the people of Mt Hope, Champs Fleurs, Mt Lambert and St Joseph, in terms of employment and related entrepreneurial activity for both the short and medium term,” Agard said. Rowley said the Government’s policy is to “change the quality of life in TT” and they have embarked on a Home Ownership Made Easy (HOME) Programme which will provide loan support from 95 to 97 percent at interest rates below six to eight percent financing; 100 percent financing for persons who wish to extend their homes to take care of elderly relatives and 100 percent financing for home improvements.
