Hunt for army rifle in Morvant

More than 100 police and soldiers searched several apartments at Nelson, Duncan and George Streets in Port-of-Spain Thursday night as part of the new assault on crime. Officers of the Firearms Interdiction Unit also searched several homes in Morvant for the Regiment’s missing Galil assault rifle. The rifle went missing from the armoury at Camp Ogden on Tuesday. Seven soldiers have since been placed in isolation as the probe into the missing weapon continues.


During the exercise 20 persons, including three women, were arrested. One man was held for murder, nine were held for trafficking, four for robberies, two for identification parades and four on warrants. The exercise started at around 8 pm and ended at midnight. Other officers taking part in the exercise included officers from Court and Process, Canine and Port-of-Spain Divisions, led by Snr Supt Errol Denoon and Acting Insp Sahadeo Singh.
