Student killed in freak accident

A 12-year-old boy suffered a fractured skull when he fell from a swing in the vicinity of Low Cost Supermarket in Cunupia at around 4 pm yesterday. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Chaguanas Health Centre. Reports revealed that Renaldo Ganoo and five others were playing on the swing when he fell from the chair of the swing and reportedly fractured his skull.

Jason Ali of Cunupia, who owns a business next door to where the freak accident occurred, told Newsday that he tried to assist the child and called for an EHS ambulance, but by the time it arrived the boy appeared to be dead. The boy’s father, Kissoon Dhanoo, was too distraught to be interviewed yesterday while his mother Caroline Ganoo collapsed at the scene. Renaldo had recently passed his SEA for Chaguanas Junior Secondary School. Police told Newsday the swing was recently discarded in bush close to Low Cost Supermarket, but Ganoo and others put the swing back together. Acting Sgt Danny Ramlogan is investigating.
