Man jailed for cocaine

A MAN was yesterday jailed for 12 months with hard labour after he pleaded guilty to possession of 2.1 grammes of cocaine before a San Fernando magistrate. Magistrate Sonia Aleong, presiding in the Second Court, heard from the prosecutor that defendant, Moses Mohammed of La Romain, was observed by PC Dublin, hurriedly putting something in his pocket when Dublin approached Mohammed, while on patrol in San Fernando on July 5.

When questioned, Mohammed allegedly told PC Dublin, “Oh God boss, give me a chance.” He was searched and the cocaine was found. Mohammed was taken to San Fernando CID, and charged. Before passing sentence, the magistrate asked Mohammed if he had any previous convictions and if he wished to say anything. His response was, “I done do something wrong... whatever I get I go take.” Mohammed, who was previously convicted for possession of an apparatus for smoking cocaine and house breaking and larceny, was then ordered to serve the 12-month custodial sentence.
