Body of masked man found in Morvant
The body of a man wearing a mask was found at Bruno Avenue, off Second Caledonia, Morvant, at dawn yesterday. He was shot twice, once to the left jaw and once to his left knee. According to reports, around 5.20 am, officers of the Morvant Police Station received a report that the body of a man was lying at Bruno Avenue. When police arrived on the scene, they saw the body with a mask over the face and a tee shirt over his head. He was also wearing a long blue jeans and white sneakers.
The body was viewed by a District Medical Officer and removed to the Port-of-Spain mortuary. Police investigators believe the suspect was shot dead after he attempted to carry out a robbery in the area. Last night the body was identified as that of David Benjamin of Belmont. In an unrelated matter, around midday yesterday, Don Primus of Eastern Quarry, Laventille was walking in the area when he was confronted by a gunman who fired a single shot, which grazed the left side of his head. He was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was treated and warded. A team of officers, led by acting Inspector Sahadeo and including Cpls Mercer and Grant, arrested a 28-year old man in connection with the shooting. He was still being questioned up until late yesterday.
Also in Laventille, around 9 pm on Friday, Akiela King, 15, of Mentor Alley, Laventille, was sitting in front of her home when she heard a loud explosion and a burning sensation on her right arm. She realised she was shot and was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where she was treated and discharged. Police investigators believe that King was shot by a stray bullet. Cpl Rowley is investigating.
