Man charged with attempted murder

A 22-YEAR-OLD man appeared in court yesterday charged with attempted murder, robbery and possession of arms and ammunition. Joseph Anderson Rawlins Govindath of Khan Trace in Fyzabad, was denied bail by Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando First Magistrates’ Court. The charges were laid indictably and Govindath was not called on to plead. The charges against Govindath arose from an incident on July 21 when Corice Alleyne, 23, was shot during a botched robbery attempt.

Alleyne of Avocat, was standing at Gopaul Street when Govindath allegedly pulled out a firearm and held her up. Alleyne put up a struggle and during the fight she was shot. The bullet entered and exited her arm and penetrated her chest. Alleyne remains warded in serious condition at San Fernando General Hospital. Cpl Parsons of Marabella CID arrested and charged Govindath on Thursday. The accused is due to reappear in court on August 9.
