Doctors to strike?

Senior doctors in the public health sector may stay away from work over this long weekend because of salary concerns. Reports are that they are dissatisfied with how their overtime wages are calculated for working on weekends and public holidays. Medical Practitioners Association of Trinidad and Tobago (MPATT) president, Dr Lakhan Roop, reportedly said that the  present rate of calculation could see junior doctors earning more than their senior colleagues.

Moreso senior doctors are said to be unhappy that the pay package proposed by the Chief Personnel Officer is said to fall short of that proposed by MPATT. Dr Roop said senior doctors were also unhappy about numerous postponements of negotiations. Meanwhile the South Regional Health Authority has reportedly said that in the event of doctors staying away from hospital this weekend, there will be a back up plan.
