2 charged with receiving ransom
TWO men, ages 27 and 32 respectively were charged last night with knowingly receiving a ransom and knowingly negotiating a ransom from Jawahir Deosaran, the father of kidnapped victim Rodney Deosaran. The charges were laid by Corporal Anthony Williams of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad. Reports revealed that on Thursday, the two men from Todds Road, Caparo and Macoya, contacted Deosaran’s father and told him that they had information where his son was being held captive. They negotiated with Deosaran to pay $25,000 for that information and also promised to get the AKS to rescue the 31-year-old victim.
The millionaire businessman contacted the AKS who advised him on the matter. A sting operation was set up on Thursday night. Deosaran was told to drop the money in a bin at Macoya. He did so while being monitored by the AKS officers. The two men used the money to purchase a quantity of clothing and cellular phones on Saturday. They were arrested by a party of officers led by ASP Adam Joseph, Sgt Joseph Isaac and including Corporal Williams, Nesbitt, Nanan and Charles. The two were taken to the AKS offices where they were interrogated and later charged. They claimed they had no idea who kidnapped Deosoarn. Up until last night, Deosaran remained in the hands of the kidnappers. His father has already paid a ransom for this son, but the kidnappers have not released him.
