Killed for trying to end URP ‘ghost gang’

A Maloney Gardens man who relatives described as a “good man” and police dubbed a “pest” has been murdered for planning to put an end to a URP “ghost gang” operating in the area. Marlon Caesar, 26, was fatally stabbed in his neck and chest by an unknown assailant at Building 19, Maloney Gardens around 1.40 yesterday morning. His death brought the rate up to 152 murders for the year.

According to investigations a neighbour heard a pounding at his back door and when he investigated, he found Caesar with blood gushing from his neck wounds. Valiant efforts were made to stop the flow but the father of two died before the emergency services could be contacted. When Newsday visited the family home, one relative described Caesar as a “good man” who did not like “advantage.” “He probably fought back when someone was trying to advantage him, so he was killed.” The relative described the Unemployment Relief Programme labourer as a very “cool person,” who did not take nonsense from anyone. Limers at the Ponderosa Pub where he had been 30 minutes before he was killed supported the view. “He was a very quiet fella, who would go by a fight any time he saw someone being advantaged. He had changed his bad ways, but would not let anyone take any advantage of him.” Investigations, however revealed that earlier that evening he had slapped a man at Building 21 and had two months ago stabbed another man at Building 19.

However, a close associate of Caesar confided that the URP worker had stated openly that he intended to bring an end to the URP “ghost gang” operating in the area on Tuesday and take over its reigns. Several residents said they saw a strange green station wagon parked in the car park with a girl sleeping in the back seat, shortly before Caesar was killed. The vehicle then disappeared. Police sources told Newsday Caesar was a “pest” who died how he lived. “He has several pending matters for attempted murder, robbery, possession of arms and ammunition, drugs and was soon to have a warrant executed for another attempted murder. He was a pest. Marlon had several enemies because he rubbed people the wrong way.” Police however said they do not believe the two men he recently had a confrontation with had anything to do with the killing, and that it is probably related to the stance he took on the URP.  Maloney police are investigating.
