Gambler wanted oral sex for a win

A man playing a game of pool in Sangre Grande wanted oral sex performed on him as part of his winnings. Shyam Mohan wanted Darrin Beharry to perform oral sex on him if Beharry lost the game of pool, but if Beharry won, Mohan would pay him $100. When Beharry turned down this and other offers allegedly made by Mohan, he (Mohan) took a full bottle of beer and smashed it on the left side of Beharry’s face. This was the evidence in the Port-of-Spain First Criminal Court yesterday. Mohan, 21, a construction worker of Sangre Grande, is before Justice Joan Charles charged with wounding Beharry on the night of February 8, 2003, with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm. Kathy-Ann Waterman-Latchoo is prosecuting the case while Ulric Skerritt and Dawn Mohan are defending the accused.

The jury heard that Beharry and two friends, Andy Badaloo and Ryan Mohammed, were playing pool at Gemini Club on the Eastern Main Road at about 10 pm, when Mohan challenged them to play for beer. The challenge was accepted and Mohan came out victorious. According to Mohammed’s testimony, Beharry wanted to change the game to “last ball last pocket,” so that he would have a better chance of winning. Mohan did not mind the switch, but wanted to play for money instead of beer — $100 per game. Beharry did not agree as he did not have such a sum of  money with which to gamble. Mohan then suggested that if Beharry won, he would pay him $100, but if  Beharry lost, he would have to perform oral sex on Mohan. Beharry refused, but Mohan still wanted to play. He put yet another offer on the table. If Beharry won, he would still pay him the $100, but if he lost, he would beat up Beharry.

In his testimony, Beharry made no mention of such offers, but recalled Mohan telling him that he (Beharry) was too ignorant, and proceeded to poke him three times on the head with his finger. Beharry  responded by asking, “What is yuh scene, boy?” According to Beharry, Mohan left the pool table and went outside, and when he returned a short while later he agreed to play “last ball last pocket,” but for money. Beharry insisted he had no money. An argument started  and Mohan is alleged to have taken a full bottle of beer and smashed it on Beharry’s face. Mohammed said he saw Beharry’s face open up and plenty of blood gushing out. He said he was able to see Beharry’s teeth through the wound. Beharry, 21, also a construction worker, said he felt blood running down his face and a fight ensued. He said he bit Mohan on his finger when he stuck it in his mouth. Beharry also testified that the fight came to an end when he saw the amount of blood on the pool table and also because he was feeling weak. Hearing continues today.
