Illegal sale of liquor ends in owner’s arrest

A 35-year-old Chinese immigrant will appear before a Tuna-puna magistrate today charged with the illegal possession of $15,000 worth of alcohol. According to reports, police yesterday went to the Shanghai City Chinese Restaurant on Eastern Main Road, Tunapuna, with a search warrant. They found large quantities of beer and other alcoholic beverages being offered for sale. When asked for a licence authorising the establishment to sell liquor, none was forthcoming. The items were seized and the owner was arrested. Leading the police party was Sgt Lezama. WPC Cumberbatch laid the charges.
