Two arrested with stolen van at Maracas Bay pillars

TWO Arima men will today appear before a Port-of-Spain magistrate charged with larceny of a Nissan Frontier pick-up van. The two men in their 30s were arrested yesterday during a police patrol at the pillars on the North Coast Road, heading to Maracas Bay. According to reports, officers of the Maracas Police Criminal Investigation Department were on patrol along the North Coast around 10 am, when on reaching the pillars they observed the occupants of the vehicle acting suspiciously. The vehicle was stopped and searched and, based on information, traced. It was identified as a vehicle stolen three days before at Arouca.


The two men were charged with larceny and will appear in court today. The exercise was headed by ASP Cummings and included Sgt Chatoo and PCs Titre and Mc Donald. PC Titre laid the charges. In an unrelated matter, 50 persons were issued with tickets for traffic offences and several cars were towed away for illegal parking along the North Coast Road in the vicinity of Maracas Bay, La Fillette, Las Cuevas and Rincon over the Emancipation holiday weekend. Five people were arrested for possession of drugs and obscene language. Police sources told Newsday that their aim is to make the Maracas Bay/ Las Cuevas, the safest holiday resort on the island.
