Teen commits suicide after crashing BMW

AFRAID to face his parents after crashing their BMW sedan, a 17-year-old Rio Claro boy is believed to have committed suicide. An autopsy yesterday on the partly decomposed body of Visham Ramcharan indicated he died after ingesting a poisonous substance. Ramcharan’s decomposing body was found by a passerby along the Cunapo Southern Road, a few miles away from his home at Tabaquite Road, Rio Claro.

Investigators believe the teenager may have taken his life sometime over the Emancipation weekend, while his parents were at Mayaro. Reports indicate that the teen’s parents asked him to go with them to Mayaro to spend the weekend, but he declined, saying he was old and responsible enough to be left home alone. The parents obliged and went off to the beach without him, but sometime over the weekend Ramcharan took the keys to his stepfather’s BMW and while driving it around in the yard, crashed into the back of a parked truck. When his parents returned home last Monday, they could not find him and later made a report to the Rio Claro police. On Sunday around 5 am, a passerby along Cunapo Southern Road stumbled on a decomposing corpse which was subsequently identified as that of Ramcharan. The body was taken to the Forensic Sciences Centre in St James where an autopsy was carried out yesterday. Rio Claro Police are investigating.
