Desperate Deosaran begs kidnappers to call

Jawahirlal Deosaran, father of kidnap victim Rodney Deosaran, made a plea to kidnappers yesterday, to contact him. Yesterday marked 36 days since his son was abducted from his in-laws’ home in Carapichaima. Deosaran, CEO of Amalgamated Sanitation Company, told Newsday, “I am not going to cooperate with the police any longer, and I want to deal directly with the kidnappers.

“Up to now we do not have any clues as to where my son is, and this is causing us much pain and agony.” He added, “That is the position and the stand I intend to take to bring this ordeal to an end.” According to Deosaran, last week money was paid to persons, who claimed they were kidnappers but “my son has not been released and I want to know where do I go from here.” Deosaran, 28, of Lange Park in Chaguanas, who is married and the father of a toddler, was visiting his in-laws on July 4 when three gunmen stormed the house.

They tied up Deosaran’s wife, Jamie, and other relatives before bundling Rodney into a silver Mazda 323 and sped away. Subsequently, a ransom of $10 million was made for Deosaran’s safe return — the largest ransom demand ever made in TT. In response to the statements made by Deosaran, senior AKS officers told Newsday they were working along certain lines and now strongly suspect that Deosaran might have been kidnapped by someone he knew. AKS officers revealed that they would continue to investigate the matter with or without Deosaran’s cooperation.
