Man, 78, caught in pumping-jack

FOR MORE than 12 hours, the foot of a 78-year-old man was on a virtual see-saw as his body became caught up in the machinery used to pump oil in the Petrotrin fields at Guapo. Lloyd Tony, of Nelson Street, Point Fortin, was rescued around 8.45 am yesterday by a Petrotrin supervisor who discovered the elderly man’s right leg hooked on to the mechanism from his pelvic area.

Tony is currently warded in stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital in Ward Four. Reports indicate the elderly man got stuck in the pumping-jack around 7 pm on Sunday night, and remained there unnoticed until next morning. Police were trying to interview him to find out how the accident occurred, but police said investigations were proving difficult since they described Tony, as “senile.” Petrotrin Police are investigating.
