Son finds mom dead

FOR FOUR DAYS, Dipraj Sankar did not see his 78-year-old mother Jassodra, who lived upstairs their house in Gasparillo. Yesterday, he walked upstairs to check on her and found the elderly woman dead on the kitchen floor. Gasparillo police were called in at Cottage Road, Reform Village.  Sankar’s son told police he had not seen his mother since Saturday and relatives began smelling a foul stench. Around 2 pm yesterday, he looked through her kitchen window and saw her on the ground. The District Medical Officer visited the scene and the partially decomposed body was removed to the San Fernando Mortuary for an autopsy.

Gasparillo Police are continuing investigations. Meanwhile, an autopsy conducted on the body of a four-year-old girl in Point Fortin ruled out foul play in the death.  Reena Sueraj, of Central Road in Point Fortin, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Point Fortin Area Hospital on Monday. The child was brought in by her mother around 9 am, who said the child was experiencing severe vomiting, and complaining of pains about her body. An autopsy performed yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre by Dr McDonald Burris revealed that the child died of pneumonia.
