Tusshar the invisible in ‘Gayab’

THE yet-to-be released movie Gayab stars Tusshar Kapoor as an invisible man. Alongside the sexy screen actress Antara Mali, the two go about saving the world. The movie also stars Raghuveer Yadav, Rasika Joshi, Ramman Trikha and Govind Namdeo. It is being directed by Prawaal Raman and produced by Ram Gopal Varma and K Sera Sera Productions. The word Gayab means to disappear or something invisible. It is the making of a superhero from a superzero and it is about psycho-analysing the behaviour of a social outcast. The film starts off with the appearance of Vishnu Prasad’s (played by Tusshar). He is a clumsy, insecure guy who always seems to get into trouble. He is indifferent because no one notices him. Clumsy because he can’t do anything steadily. Insecure because everyone can trick or tease him and get away with it.

At the start of the film, director Prawaal Raman ensures he has established Vishnu’s “unwanted” status on screen and ample public sympathy off it. The young man, Vishnu Prasad appears nervous. It’s not his fault though it’s hereditary. Scientifically speaking, he is a cross between an irritatingly dominant mother, (played by Rasika Joshi) and a painfully recessive father, (played by Raghuveer Yadav). Miraculously enough, all the recessive genes fell into poor Vishnu’s share. Midway into the film, Vishnu had to face a major act of rejection from someone he loves. He has a crush on Mohini (played by Antara Mali), the girl who lives opposite his house. Mohini who apes the high brand of fashion, hangs around coffee shops and music shops, watches movies in multiplexes, surfs the TV, reads fashion magazines, zooms in a Rover with her equally vain “US-returned” boyfriend Sameer (played by Ramman Trikha).

Vishnu accidentally winks at Mohini and predictably invokes Sameer’s wrath. Unable to bear the humiliation of being insulted in front of his dream girl, Vishnu was reduced to tears. An upset Vishnu heads for the beach only to bump into an enchanted statue. He repeated the words “Gayab kardo mujhe.” which is translated to mean “Make me invisible.” Much to the amazement of the depressed Vishnu his wish came true and he became invisible. At first he hates the idea. But then he realises that turning invisible means lots of power. With great power comes great responsibility. He becomes super irresponsible and gets back at all those who troubled him. On revealing his real self to Mohini she had a change of heart. She became serious about her life and decided to save the city with Vishnu. Tusshar does justice to the role as he makes “Vishnu Prasad” come alive. He exudes vulnerability. He wears failure on his face, till he is endowed with superpowers, without looking conscious. He conveys the desperation and madness post-invisibility equally well. His co-star Antara Mali is equally good. Her facial expressions are  exaggerated and her dialogue delivery has a perfect tone to it.
