Central schools celebrate good results
SECONDARY schools in Central Trinidad did well in the CXC, Cambridge and CAPE 2004 Examinations. Officials at the Caroni Education Office of the Ministry told Newsday they were satisfied with the level of performance of the students. Holy Faith Convent in Couva, one of the pilot schools for the CAPE Examination, achieved a 100 percent success rate, with 27 percent of the students gaining distinctions. In the Cambridge A’ Level exams, the school also enjoyed a 100 percent success rate, while 98 percent enjoyed O’ Level success. Acting Principal Angela Iloo was enthusiastic about the results and said she hoped the school was in line for national scholarships.
Officials at Couva Government Secondary also reported good results with 86 percent in the A’ Levels, 100 percent in English Literature; 83 percent in History, 95 percent in Sociology; 93 percent in Biology, and 93 percent in Chemistry. Principal Simon Rostant of Presentation College, Chaguanas, said the teaching staff was “heartened by what we have seen.” The A’ Level pass list showed 96 percent of the students succeeded in Maths, 80 percent in Economics, 100 percent in Business Management, 100 percent in Physics, 91 percent in Chemistry, 75 percent in Biology, 100 percent in Computer Studies and 84 percent in Further Maths. Rostant said the O’ Level results were “also very satisfactory.” Recalling that Chaguanas Presentation College had won the President’s Medal on six occasions, Rostant said, “From the results we have seen, we should be getting our fair share of national scholarships.”
