Triplets born at South hospital — again

FOR the second time in two months, doctors at the San Fernando General Hospital have delivered a healthy set of triplets. Last week Wednesday, a seven-month pregnant Stacy Briggs, 31, gave birth to two girls and a boy and was allowed to take them home yesterday. The proud mother said she was midway through her pregnancy when she got the surprise news that she was having triplets. “I did a private ultrasound. When I found out, for 20 minutes I was like, ‘how am I going to handle this?’ After that I was okay with it.” A receptionist at Dr Edmond and George Chamley’s office, Briggs said she prayed throughout her pregnancy that her babies would be healthy. She has a nine-year-old daughter, Shnika, and lives with her common-law-husband, Arthur Russel, at Manahambre Road, Ste Madeleine.

She said her two sisters, Tricia and Beverly, will be assisting her in taking care of the babies. “I feel ecstatic. I cannot wait to take them home,” a smiling Briggs added. Dr Kerrin Brahin, consultant in neo-natalogy who delivered the triplets, said the delivery was successful but the neo-natal ward was short-staffed. “We are having problems because of limited staffing,” he said. Dr Brahin said they were trying to upgrade the nursery and currently had one nurse to monitor eight babies. However, he said they were aspiring to having one nurse per baby. Although two of the triplets were on ventilators, Dr Brahim said they were healthier than the triplets born to Karen Fournillier and Neil Romany two months ago. On June 18, attorney-at-law Karen Fournillier gave birth to a girl and two boys. The babies spent almost two weeks being closely monitored in the hospital’s nursery before they were discharged on July 4.
