Saith Park part of tourism plan for Chaguanas
LANDSCAPING WORK on the $1.2 million Saith Park development project is expected to be completed within the next few months. Formal opening of the park, which was formerly a cricket ground for Central Sports Club, took place Tuesday evening, with Local Government Minister Rennie Dumas doing the honours in the absence of the Tourism Minister Howard Chin Lee. Chaguanas Mayor Suruj Rambachan said Saith Park will be included in the Renaissance Plans of the Borough which is aimed at attracting tourists to the area. In the keynote address at the ceremony, Dumas spoke about Local Government reform. “We must always be prepared to do better as the dissatisfaction of the past should motivate us to achieve greater things, and in that regard we should aim at making a quantum leap forward,” he said.
“Whatever we do, our aim should be to make Trinidad and Tobago a developed nation by 2020,” he added. Dumas said Saith Park had the “space and the place to bring the community closer and to help in reflecting the heritage of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.” Chaguanas MP Manohar Ramsaran called for “equal distribution of resources to all parts of the country.” “When people pay taxes they should receive goods and services equal to what they contribute to the Treasury and, in that regard, we should not struggle to get what is rightfully ours,” he said, adding that under the UNC $1.6 million was allocated for the development of Saith Park. Ramsaran wanted to know where the rest of the money “had gone if it was not used in the project.”
