Welcome home party for Bovell
SPORTS MINISTER Roger Boynes yesterday said Government has planned a welcome home reception for Olympic bronze medallist George Bovell III when he arrives at Piarco International Airport on Tuesday (Independence Day) at 2 pm. Speaking at the post-Cabinet news conference at Whitehall, Boynes said the reception would be scaled down since Bovell will be attending the National Awards ceremony at President’s House later in the day. Bovell is reported to be on the list of awardees.
Boynes declined to say what else Government would do to honour Bovell, saying that decision would be made when Prime Minister Patrick Manning returned. Government has decided to fast track construction of a 50-metre Olympic swimming pool at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in the swimmer’s honour. “I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag,” he said. The minister also said Cabinet agreed to the establishment of a limited liability company for the National Sports Company.
