Top cop let off the hook at JSC
POLICE COMMISSIONER Trevor Paul managed to avoid questions from a parliamentary Joint Select Committee (JSC) about how he intended to deal with crime in Trinidad and Tobago and properly manage the Police Service. Paul was present at yesterday’s JSC meeting at the Red House, but time ran out on the JSC to question him because it took a long time grilling members of the Police Service Commission, who were also present. Before the meeting was adjourned, Paul gave a commitment to return and tell the JSC how he intended to treat with the issues of crime and management of the Police Service. Junior Community Development Minister Eudine Job-Davis and UNC Senator Robin Montano were particularly interested in finding out what Paul’s specific plans were in these areas, and whether he had set any benchmarks. Committee chairman, Independent Senator Prof Ramesh Deosaran, extended sympathies to Dr Marjorie Thorpe about the murder of acting Insp Edward Williams during a dinner party at her St Augustine home earlier this month. Paul declined to speak to reporters after the meeting about information which Montano claimed to have about that incident.
