Couple charged with having 100 rounds of ammo

A  police officer, aged 31, appeared yesterday before a Port-of-Spain magistrate charged with his common law wife. Appearing before Magistrate Avason Quinlan was Edrick Mc Williams and his common-law wife Selina Alexis, both charged with possession of ammunition. Reports state that the couple was travelling in their car along the Western Main Road when at about 4pm, officers of the Port-of-Spain CID intercepted the vehicle and conducted a search. Upon searching, the officers found 100 rounds of ammunition  hidden in the trunk of the car.

The officer, who is attached to the 999 Emergency Response Unit was arrested along with his companion and taken to the Port-of-Spain CID where they were charged for the offence. Representing the two yesterday was attorney Peter Taylor who pleaded for bail for his clients saying the police officer had an impeccable character to maintain. In response the magistrate did not object to bail but said however that she felt the $45,000 set for bail initially was not sufficient in relation to the charges faced by both accused. She then set bail in the sum of $75,000 each. Cpl Ruben Alleyne of the Port-of-Spain CID laid the charges. The matter was adjourned to September 9.
