Hochoy Charles: Independence has no meaning for Tobago
TOBAGO HOUSE of Assembly (THA) Minority Leader Hochoy Charles believes that after 42 years, Independence holds no meaning for Tobago. Charles voiced his opinion to reporters following an Independence Day reception at the Port Authority compound in Scarborough yesterday. He based his belief on the view that the island had not yet achieved a status where it could be able to comfortably take care of problems that have “bedeviled Tobago for donkey years.” “We have a golden opportunity now but I don’t think that the leadership in Tobago knows what to do with this golden opportunity. “You have an opportunity now where you control two seats and the Government in office today controls 20. If you use your two seats you can demand and get everything for Tobago at this time, that is what you should do. That is what any proper leadership in Tobago will do and that is what will bring real meaning to Independence for Tobago,” Charles said.
