PSA to build $35M complex

THE PUBLIC Services Association (PSA) has drawn up a $35 million development plan for its Long Circular Road facility. Work on what promises to be a major complex will begin within the next two months. Stephen Thomas, acting President of the PSA, gave details of what the union has completed so far. He told Newsday: “We always said that 2004 would be the last year of Brass Festival and things like that. We are going to be constructing at our Long Circular property and we already have outlined approval. “We are embarking on a 35 million dollar-development project at Long Circular that will create a new international standard lawn tennis court, with training courses as well.  We are going to have a swimming pool of international standard.  We would have an indoor gymnasium with basketball and other facilities.

“We are going to create a Centre for the Arts — that means our own theatre. We are going to have conference facilities as well. We (are) going to have an administration office, so that our administrative business will be conducted there and we (are) going to have offices where other support services can be provided.” In an exclusive interview, Thomas said the PSA is planning to construct high-rise and multi-complex units of superior quality. It will be a gated-community. “We are also going to provide a lake. “Man, it’s going to be a very ultra-modern kind of finish. “You will remember that some 20 years ago, our property was burnt down. So we are coming back with a bang.” Thomas said the union wants to bring back the glory days of PSA at Long Circular.

“We are in a position where we can do what we had been hoping for, for a number of years. We have the plans. We have strategic partners and we are about to put a new face to Long Circular.  In other words, we are bringing back the old time days in a very modern way . . .  you watch and you will see for yourself.” Thomas said football facilities, which featured prominently in the old PSA structure, are not part of the plan. “The Government has a lot of stadia which are under-utilised, so we don’t want to duplicate what is happening. What we have in mind is to bring back the old time days as far as the PSA - Long Circular is  concerned.”
