I am eternally grateful to teachers

DEVON INDAR, of 55 Dass Branch Terrace, Enterprise, is on top of the world in Chemistry. He was so informed by the University of Cambridge International (England)  Council on the basis of the results of the 2004 Advanced Level Examination. He was invited to a Cambridge World Achievers’  Award Function to be so honoured tomorrow, at 5.30 pm  at the Hilton Trinidad. Indar, the son of Wilton Indar, a former Petroleum Superintendent of Tank Farm at Guayaguayare,  and Debra Indar, a teacher of Montrose Government Primary School,  from where he passed the then  Common Entrance Examination, received his secondary education at Presentation College, Chaguanas.

At the GCE  Ordinary Level Examination he gained distinctions in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths, Add Maths, Computer Science, Geography, Spanish,  English and Technical Drawing. And in the Advanced Level Examination in 2003 which he wrote as a private candidate he got distinctions in Add Maths, Physics, and Chemistry and writing the Examination as a college student in 2004, he again gained distinctions in Add Maths, Physics and Chemistry as well as General Paper. Indar said that his parents played an important role in his life as a student, instilling the “virtues of discipline, honesty, and fairplay in whatever one attempts to do.”

In particular his mother taught him in Standards III and IV,  adequately preparing him for the intense programme of activities in the Standard V (Common Entrance) class “and all those teachers who have helped in preparing me for life’s journey  I want to be eternally grateful.” At school he was involved in the 2nd Presentation Sea Scouts movement and “the training that I was exposed to in that organisation will definitely be of value to me  sometime in the future.” Indar, whose hobbies are lawn tennis and guitar playing, would like to advise young students “to play hard, work hard, set targets, and commit yourself to achieving your dreams and aspirations.” He has already been accepted by UWI to pursue studies in medicine, which he will begin tomorrow at the Mt Hope Medical Complex.
