Cops probe malicious damage at Caroni school
Officers of the Caroni Police Station are investigating a report of malicious damage to a fence belonging to the Servol- run St Helena Early Childhood Pre-school. The fence, which borders the St Helena Shiv Mandir, was broken down between Saturday night and early yesterday morning, and members of the school board are now trying to find the funds to repair the broken down fence.
Spokesman for the school, Bobby Maharaj, told Newsday the school houses 60 students between the ages of three to five, and the fence was erected as a security measure. He is calling for security at the school in wake of the malicious damage to the fence. The school employs four teachers and a janitor and was built on the compound of the old St Helena Health Centre. According to Maharaj, the damage to the fence has caused anxiety among the teachers, who are now fearful for their safety. He is calling on the Caroni police to find and arrest the perpetrators of the act.
