Faith in God leads to Sociology success

She learnt that silver and gold will fade away, but a good education is forever.  With such a driving force behind her vision, it was sure to pay handsome dividends in the long run. And, as sure as night follows day, Salisha Khan, daughter of Mazark and Sherene of Croisee Road, St Mary’s Village, Carapichaima, excelled in the Advanced Level examination in Sociology, a subject in which she placed fifth in the world. Salisha, who received her primary education at the Carapichaima Roman Catholic School, passed the Common Entrance in 1997 and was assigned to the Couva Government Secondary School.

She gained passes in the Ordinary Level examination in English, Mathematics, Literature (A), History,  Geography (A), Chemistry, Biology, Social Studies (A), and at the Advanced Level examination she got As in History, and Sociology. Salisha is a devout Muslim who has given praise to Prophet Mohammed for being “chiefly responsible for all the success I have obtained so far in life.” Her exceptional performance saw her accepted to pursue law at the Faculty of Law in UWI, and her classes begin today.

She advised young people that in order to be successful in life, one needs “to believe in yourself and have faith in God as in Him all things are possible.” Although Couva Government Secondary is not blessed with all the facilities necessary to be among the best schools in the country, Salisha “has faith in the teachers as they are committed and dedicated to deliver quality education to the students at that institution, and they must be praised for their effort.” The principal and staff “must be commended for their effort in producing students who could hold their own in the adult world,” she said.
